BBa_K4610001, Afu8g00510, encodes for the production of the protein Fma-P450 or Multifunctional cytochrome P450 monooxygenase af510/ Fumagillin biosynthesis cluster P450 monooxygenase. The protein produced, Fma-P450, is a necessary part of the fumagillin biosynthesis pathway.

After the initial substrate, farnesyl pyrophosphate (FPP) is converted to β-trans-bergamotene by Fma-TC, three sequential steps of oxidative transformations are catalyzed by Fma-P450. These three steps of oxidative transformations that are catalyzed by Fma-P450 first involve the hydroxylation of β-trans-bergamotene to yield 5R-hydroxyl-beta-trans-bergamotene. 5R-hydroxyl-beta-trans-bergamotene is then further oxidized to form 5-keto-cordycol. The third oxidation step produces 5-keto-demethoxy fumagillol through an additional epoxidation. The intermediate produced by the reaction involving Fma-P450, 5-keto-demethoxy fumagillol, continues the biosynthesis pathway to produce fumagillol in the first half of the biosynthesis pathway where it later evolves to form fumagillin, our target product.
